RESEARCHING YOUR SCOTTISH & IRISH ANCESTRY
Catriona Haine is a professional genealogist and family historian, based in the West of Scotland, who has a passion for solving genealogical mysteries. Catriona has been able to solve genealogy 'brickwalls' through her lateral thinking approach, achieving results that have evaded others in their research.
Catriona specialises in Scottish family history and the lives of those who lived through the industrialisation of Central Scotland, as well as the Irish diaspora, and their origins in Ireland, whether they were emigrants to Scotland or beyond to North America, Australia or New Zealand. Catriona also has considerable experience of English family history research and can help research your ancestors from England.
Catriona holds an MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographic & Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Catriona has detailed knowledge of 19th century Scottish poor law and asylum history, organisation and records having conducted extensive research into the lives of those impacted by pauper patient removals from the Glasgow Royal Asylum (Gartnavel) in the late 19th century for her masters degree.
Catriona is a member of the Register of Qualified Genealogists.

Have you wondered who lived in your home in the past? Whether it's a country manor house or a Victorian tenement, the history of your home and the people who have lived in it will be researched and woven into a narrative report telling the story of the home and its inhabitants from its earliest times. Like our bespoke family history research service, research and fees are all discussed and agreed in advance.
£25 per hour with a minimum research period of one hour.
Before any research starts, an initial consultation is held to discuss your objectives as well as any previous research, records held or information known about the family or house to be investigated. From this consultation, the focus and detail of the research is agreed and documented, along with cost and any expenses associated with conducting the research.
For Scottish family research, expenses normally incurred relate to the £15 day pass for the ScotlandsPeople Centre. However, this charge will be pro-rata in the event your research does not require a full day of research. Should any extensive travel be needed to fulfil your research, this would be discussed and costs agreed in advance.

A professionally printed family tree is included with each family tree package along with a research report documenting the sources of records and transcriptions of birth, marriage and death records. There is also the option of having a narrative report telling the story of your ancestors and the lives they lived in the context of the social and economic circumstances of the time.

On our recent relocation our interest was taken in the history of the property. We were amazed with both the wealth of information
Catriona was able to tell us about our home and her fastidious delivery. What more could one desire? Nothing!

Thank you for the brilliant work you did in gathering information about our ancestors. Your work made all the difference in making our trip to Scotland truly amazing. It was a fantastic experience largely because of the research you carried out. Many, many thanks.
The report is brilliant. Thank you. Interesting to see how names were carried from generation to generation and great to finally find out where in Ireland my family came from.
Carol, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
I was adopted as a baby and as I approached my 80th birthday, I decided to find out about my birth family. I had little information but Catriona quickly unearthed details of my background. I'm now in regular contact with 3 siblings which would not have been possible without Catriona's expertise. Many thanks.
